In very exciting news for ABA, our phone Breastfeeding Helpline has gone national! As you will know if you’ve ever called it yourself, previously when a mother called the Breastfeeding Helpline, she would get a recorded message with the names and numbers of counsellors who were available, would have to note these details and then make another call to speak with someone. Improvements made with the new Breastfeeding Helpline mean that now, mothers (and fathers and grandparents and caregivers) only need make one call to our new number, 1800 686 2 686 (1800 mum 2 mum), and they will be connected to the first available counsellor in Australia. The new helpline, a free-call number, has seen welcome improvements both for callers (of which we have about 1100 per week!) and for our volunteer counsellors. The Breastfeeding Helpline is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Support Breastfeeding Mums initiative.

We come from all walks of life and have had different life experiences. Some of us are first time parents, others have been there before and know how each child teaches you new skills. One way or another we are all busy mothers coping with motherhood and we’re united in our desire to help mothers who wish to breastfeed their babies. ABA is not just for mothers with breastfeeding problems — through your own experience you may offer the encouragement and support another mother needs.
